SOLVED Windows 8.1 screen resolution problem

I just upgraded to 8.1 and my resolution is all off. I have an Asus VS329 screen that is 1920x1080 native resolution. Windows says that is the current resolution but there are black areas on all four sides of the window as if the screen ends there even though it doesn't. I have attempted to change the resolution and make things larger but it has not work. I tried to stretch the screen through its own buttons but those options are shaded out and i cannot use them from the menu.

Anybody else have this problem and know how to fix it?

Figured it out.

I have an AMD Trinity A6 APU. I updated the video catalyst drivers and it fixed the problem after i adjusted the scaling settings.
