So a few weeks back the official distributor for Win 7 SP1 downloads suddenly went AWOL. More info here. Apparently nobody has gotten a straight answer from either Microsoft or Digital River as to why the good ol' digital downloads have been taken down. They have been offline before, but never more than a few days.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows of an alternative download location for the SP1 versions? And I'm talking legit locations now. Not that there's any "non-legit" locations concerning these files; AFAIK Microsoft doesn't mind if these files are shared, as it's not possible to install them without a valid license either way. They are just exact digital copies of the DVD setup discs :)

I bought a license yesterday online and was about to download the ISO today, and I really wouldn't want to download the old non-SP1 ISO (these are still online) because of the lengthy process of updating to SP1 via Windows Update

So, if anyone has any clues, please do tell! Thanks in advance.

Wow I read that article and found this Quote:perhaps we're witnessing the beginning of the end of easily accessible, verified genuine Windows 7 bits.

That is the reason I don't trust the cloud, to much control over software ownership. I still like the disks better while I can still buy them.
