I think i powered up my chv-f and chv-f-z boards to be sure they worked before I shipped them off to the wild blue yonder. next time i talk to Rgone I'll check with him.

Yes it is possible with an option on some ASUS boards called direct flash. Don't know about other brands but it works with these. You need the BIOS file properly named on a FAT32 USB, put in the proper port , then select the flash button to start it. Wait till the flashing light stops and voila. New Bios.
 
It's only ASUS feature as there is additional chip which is helping in that. All ROG boards have that but not most regular ASUS boards.
