Had just swapped my Tri-X 290 into my other PC, replacing a Windforce 280X. Wasn't sure if a driver cleaning/reinstall would be necessary, so I did it in probably the worst(?) way possible, running the AMD driver and attempting uninstall through that method. It succeeded-ish(?), at which point I proceeded with the install of the driver. I booted up BF4 and noticed immediately that my FPS was the same as it was moments earlier with the 280X. Ran GPU-z temp monitor to make sure the 290 wasn't throttling or something and it wasn't. Got a couple more FRAPS instances and they showed same.
Downloaded Driver Sweeper (or whatever the new name is), ran it, and reinstalled the AMD driver again. This time, I have my expected FPS with the 290, 15-20% higher than the 280X.
Moral of the story, always clean drivers and reinstall when swapping GPUs (or at least don't do the half-headed method I tried
Just passing on the info.
