Almost all 5GHz Wifi hardware nowadays will also do 2.4GHz, though not all can do both at the same time. You will, of course, need a 5GHz capable AP/router and/or adapter in order to use 5GHz. (Does that 5GHz audio solution only work on an AP or can it also do adhoc/Wifi direct?)

That headset that was dual band had a USB receiver that came with it.

What would be nice is a portable dual mode Wifi/Bluetooth adapter for converting wired headphones. Some advanced DIYer could DIY one or even reprogram an obsolete smartphone to work as one.

Note that Wifi uses significantly more power than Bluetooth, meaning the battery life of the headset/adapter (and the source if it's a mobile device) will not be as good. While Wifi chipsets have gotten more efficient over the years, so have Bluetooth chipsets so the gap remains.
