I've seen this old junk rotting away in my Mother's inlaw backyard for a couple years now. It would make a nice benching platform....but that would take too much elbow grease just for sanding and refinish.
Well, I took it home and been working on it little by day by day for the past two weeks just to grind and sand it down.
At first I was just going to finisht the top only...but kept going and finished inside out. Did not plan to make a working progress until after the first coat of paint. It looks great.
So....here it is.

Materials...

Freshly painted... (still have that old pair of rail rotted)

Underside

I found only one single side 14" Accuride heavy-duty ball bearing mechanism in the tool box.
(15" required...but 14" would do...no need spend extra money)

Mechanism in actions with 2 HDDs installed for easy wiring access and quick change.

It has room for 2 benches.........or even 3 if I really wanted.

DVD installed

PSU installed

Temporary it's done for now...as I just ordered some brass standoffs.
Some more cutting and drilling need to be done.

Thanks onfstsnake.
Sure! Why not? It might be fun. :)

==============

Just did a passthrough hole for cables before hitting the sack.
The darn hole was hard to cut through without proper tools.
It's going to be a week before I could get those standoffs. :(

need some mobo standoffs?
I got a bunch laying around here.
Where you located?

That's generous of you. Thanks very much onefstsnake.
Good new is that they probably be here on Wed or Thursday the latest.

==============

Meanwhile, taking advantage of the weekend free time....
I bought some coupling nuts, bolts, locking nuts, a threaded rod and made threads for the coming standoffs.

It's a bit overkill but worth the effort. It's rock sokid as a one piece frame.

A visualize of its look if it was on standoffs.

The height can be adjusted accordingly to the standoffs height.

1" tall standoffs came yesterday....and make use the rest of the spray paint can with the final coat.

Might as well made bench ready mounting holes on the other side.

Pre-drill a bunch of holes for wires management later on.
Everything as unicolor.

This really makes me want a benching station!

Sure! Let's get started. It would be fun.
As you can see I just have a few common household tools needed to do this project. So, anyone can do it. :soda:

==========

Anyone was wondering what the heck is my bench station sitting on?
Well yes, it's my "one-nite stand" computer that I made almost 2 years ago in this thread. Though, a newer revision added a power button, more USB inputs, moved the HDD into the drawer as well. Tossed GPU and using an IGP of G41 chipset instead.

Well, I think my little has finally finished.

Must have more HDDs (total of 4)

I'm not a 3Ds benching guy but who knows?
Added a swivel bracket for GPU fan. (highly doubted if I ever need it)

Alright, I promise not to spam anymore pictures. :)
Though, I would like to add a pic or two of how 2 system would look like on top of this bench platform once I have a chance. :)

I wouldn't need any case now.

Here are the final pixels of a dual bench system. It looks like a monster. (the i7-2600k system is on 1/2" tall standoffs)

That's awesome! I love simplicity of it :thup:

Just curious, what white cathodes are those?

Also, you need to teach me how to take good pics like those :D
