i found a pretty cool website

you know how all the cards have a fcc number

well this lets you look them up by manufature some times model

yeah crash that can be a pretty useful site.
I found the manufacturer of my modem there only to find out that they had gone out of bussines.
But whata heck

This site www.56k.com is geared specifically to modems and has a useful page : http://www.56k.com/trouble/noname.shtml which goes through several other methods of determining the maker . Better with older modems .
