The people who originally made Outcast have bought the rights for when Atari went belly up and now they have a Kickstarter to make a HD reboot.

People who have played the game surely remember it. Back in 1999 it was so unique and so ahead of its time it was insane.

For people who haven't played it it was a third-person, open world, science fantasy, action adventure 3D game. There are games today making headlines for doing stuff Outcast did in '99. Unlike GTA does the NPCs in Outcast are fully simulated with their own doings, like going to work or getting something to eat or such. The AI of the enemies was reactive in a way many games today don't have. The dialogue system adapted based on the reputation of the players, and all dialogue in the entire game was voice acted. They were doing pixel effect for the water other games didn't start doing until 5 years later with DirectX 9c hardware. The world itself was entirely unique, with none of the generic scifi/fantasy worlds you see in most games today. Even the story managed to throw in a few really interesting twists and turns. To top it all of it had a magnificent score by the Moscow symphony Orchestra.

The main downside of Outcast was that it ran at a very low resolution, and that is one of the things the kickstarter is looking to fix.
