Is there a program that I can run on a blank hard drive or c prompt which will help me get a great Windows install? One that monitors how the install is proceeding?

Well basically the best way to install windows is probably to use a boot disk(win98) and proceed from the dos prompt.

Which version of Windows are you trying to install ?

Windows ME, maybe even 98. upgrading after XP comes down a little more.
