Compaq Pressario 1200 700mhz Celeron prob DVDROM dont work =/

I just tradedmy xbox for a laptop compaq pressario 700mhz celeron 312 ram with dvd rom drive , it doesn't wana boot games or anything it says The media is invalid or sumthing i tried 4 games none work. Any idea how I can get it to work? I went to compaqs site nothing there thats helpfull. Thanks ahead of time.

Did it come with a quickrestore disk? I am guessing it didn't... But if it did, I would back up everything and use the qr cd. That will wipe everything to factory settings and let you find if its a hardware or software problem.

If it did not come with the disk, see if you can get compaq to send you one for that model of laptop...

This may be a stupid question, but is it a DVD drive? Does windows tell you it is?

Says its a DVD-ROM/CD-RoM drive.

it will read DVD just no cd an it says DVD/CD drive so i know it works with cds even the person i traded said it supposedto.

i had a dvd from compaq wouldn't play any burn cds in it just a thought
