I need some help configuring my linksys BEFSR41 so that I can use the video and voice components of msn messenger. Im using windows XP Pro, without SP1. If I dont have the router plugged in, and the modem is going directly to the PC....I can use my web cam just fine.....but with the router plugged in...I cant send video....if someone knows how to fix this...please let me know!!!

have you enabled DMZ host under the advanced tab in the router setup? this option is for video conferencing and game hosting.

change the last octet to the ip on the machine youre using.

DMZ is not the best solution. You need to find what ports you need to forward to that box. I will take a quick look

The best one I think is this one:
Linksys Knowledge base article.

After a quick Google search here are some links:

http://messenger.msn.com/support/knownissues.asp?client=1
second to last entry.

If you can not get these to work then you should use DMZ but do not keep your computer on DMZ when not actively using MSN messenger as it leaves you outside of the protection of the firewall:D

well, what I ended up doing is going to advanced options->port forwarding->UPnP forwarding, enabling udp protocol on port 6681. seems to be working, but it seems like I need to open another port for the audio maybe...I dunno..thanks for your help though!!!!!
