made a dos startup disk.
loaded flash utility off mobo wesite and the bios file to floppy.
do these files have to be extracted first as they are Zip files at the moment.
any speedy help would be appreciated.
NEVER UPDATED A BIOS BEFORE!!!

Yes you should extract them first, if you have an Asus MOBO you could use Asus Live Update which works under Windows (NOTE some older MOBO's are NOT supported).

Remember to make a backup of your old bios, I always make 2 floppy's as I've had problems with floppy's before.

NEVER turn off or reboot your PC if something goes wrong, find another PC and make a new floppy.

Make sure you have the right BIOS file (IE: If you have a P3B-F you shouldn't flash it with a P3B, P3B-LS or P3B-DS BIOS).

If you keep that in mind you shouldn't have any problems.

You also might wanna write down the EXACT file name, as some flash utilities are picky about upper and lower case (Like TWK1012.AWD or atc62543.bin).
Well you could type dir at the A:\ prompt, but I believe everything shows up in upper case.
