I am upgrading the PC's in my father's office, which are old dell p///'s that run pc100....I am going to up the RAM in each by 256mb, but I am thinking about buying some pc2700 sticks (since they are the same price) and just putting those in...they will default to the pc100 speed won't they?

the main reason that i am asking is because if that's the case, I'll buy the pc2700 so if my dad upgrades all his machines later, I can just pull the pc2700 and put it in the new machines....what do you think?

That's not going to work. SDRAM (PC100) is a completely different monster than DDR memory (PC2700). Just take a look at the difference between the memory in your two different rigs. SDRAM is 168 pin while DDR RAM is 184 pin IIRC.
