The 9600 non-pro is probably the better choice, but if you wat (and can still find) a 9500 Pro, it is about 10-15% better. THe 9600 has a whole new core and a bunch of other features, plus better clock speeds. The only reason the 9600 Pro series is slower than the 9500 Pro is memory bandwidth. IU think the 9600 np is better than the 9500 np though.

There is a difference between the 9600 and 9600 Pro. I believe the clockspeeds are significantly lower on the np, but I haven't found any information about it.

I would personally go with the 9500np over the 9600np. My 9500 has treated me very well.

I noticed from the pictures that nonpro9600's run on passive cooling and the pro version runs on active cooling with a much larger heatsink.

I couldn't find any info on the clocks of the 9600np until I found this web page. It says the 9600np is at 325/400. With better cooling you could easily yank the core way up there, but that memory bandwidth would limit it like nobody's business. I still say go for the 9500np, unless you can spring the extra $20 or so for the 9600 Pro.

My 9600 Pro came stock 400 core/300 memory (600 DDR).
With stock cooling (which is almost nothing) I've got at 513 core/ 351 memory currently... Is the 325/400 number for the non pro with the DDR factored into the mem? If so, I'm running 513/702... It's rock stable at this speed and I haven't gone any higher just cuz I've been busy and have only had the card 2 days...

So with minimal effort (adjusting a slider in Rage3D tweak isn't even considered work as far as I'm concerned) and no extra cooling, I've managed a 113MHz core O/C and 51MHz memory O/C... nothing too terribly huge, but nothing to scoff at either... Supposedly some of the newer 9600Pros have a lower voltage and are therefore much harder to O/C. I've been seeing problems getting above 500 core lately...
Guess I'll count myself lucky.

what kind of futuremark score do you get with it?
How do a stock 9500np and a stock 9600np compare.

p.s.-i do not want to change the cooling on either

I wouldn't even consider the 9600np... it's clocked too low to make up for the 4 pipes rather than 8, and I haven't heard of very many people getting good overclocks out of them... As far as futuremark: I'm running a Celeron 1.2Gig system right now, so the scores would be so horribly skewed by the rest of the system that I wouldn't really wanna post them...

The 9500np is probably way better than the 9600np even if you can't mod it successfully.

my friend just paid 195$ for a 9500pro (its still not here)

should i tell him to cancel and order a 9600pro?

No. The 9500np is better than the 9600 Pro if you ask me... None of the new ones are clocking near that high either.

Maybe that firingsquad one where they had a super 9600 Pro.. most new ones will only make it to 450-490. My 9600 pro at 488/710 gets beat by my 9500np that's not modded.
Just look at the Futuremark results... but don't count the 9600 TX ones because they are some european pumped up 9500 Pro's with speacial drivers.

Well, from what i have seen alot of places are compairing a heavily overclocked 9600 pro against a stock 9500 pro and guess what the 9600 pro is close in performance! But in the same reviews they dont show what a 9500 pro can do when overclocked. I personally would like a 9500 pro or maybe if you are into the ebay scene buy 2~3 9500 np's and keep the best 9500np out of the bunch. So I figure the 9600 np's just arnt in the same league considering how ati kneecapped them a bit to much.
