does pc2100 ddr ram run at 266mhz?? because when i ran CPU-Z and checked the memory frequency, it shows up as 132.9 mhz... is that normal??

yes it is. pc2100 is rated to run at 133 mhz.

Your ram runs at the FSB speed.

PC 2100 ram is rated to run at 133 MHZ. (DDR 266)

PC 3200 ram is rated to run at 200 MHZ. (DDR 400)

PC 3200 ram is rated to run at higher FSB speeds than PC 2100 ram, and this is why it is better for overclocking.

So if you overclock, you want to buy the ram that is rated to run above whatever FSB speed you are aiming to overclock at.

Athlon xp 1800+ tbred. corsair (2 sticks) of 256mb/333mhz

My cpu runs at 1.53 gig (266mhz I presume). My memory is set to "auto" in the bios. How can I find out if it's running at 333mhz or not? Is it possible to have your cpu fsp @ 266 while having the memory at 333?

Is there a tool out there that can tell me?

Your DDR operates at the same frequency your cpu does because they both operate on the FSB.

Your cpu runs at 133 mhz fsb.

Your ram will be running at 133 also if that is what the fsb is set to, but it's Double Data Rate, so that is where the 266 comes from - it transmits data on the front and back side of each cycle. (133*2=266)

Chips like the barton 2500+ run at 166Mhz fsb. The DDR ram to go with a stock setting of 166mhz fsb would be 333mhz because 2*166=333. (I KNOW)

So your ram is rated for a fsb speed of 166mhz and overclocking will not create any stability problems due to your ram at or below that speed.[/quote]

ram frequency that we talk about is actualy doubled actually frequency, so pc2100 rans at 266 mhz (actual=133) pc2700 rams at 333 mgz(166) and pc3200 which is stated 400mhz rans at 200mhz
