vcr files

Ok I have one pc setup as a tivo. It has a radeon 7500 all in wonder. The PC i want to actually watch the files on has a fx5800. The ati mmc isn't working on here, I assume because it lacks an ati card. So is there a file player out there somewhere that will play .vcr files? I tried using the mmc and converting them to mpeg2 but all i get is sound, and a blank green screen . I've tried converting the mpeg to divx and still same thing. Thanks
