Sony Spressa USB with a harddrive?

So i have a Sony Spressa USB external cdrom thingy. I'm messing around with trying to put a hard drive in it. When I do, windows sees the harddrive (Western Digital 80gig), and installs it fine, but it doesn't show up in my computer.

I've tried replacing the cable inside the spressa (40 conductor) to an 80 conductor, but still to no avail.

I was just wondering if anybody has tried this or has any ideas that i could try to get this to work.

Did you partition, format it, and give it a drive letter ?? (control panel > admin. tools > computer management > storage...), otherwise, you will not see it in "my computer".
