can some please tell me how to power the psu without a mobo? i need to pressure test my loop. im getting an mcp600 and need to 24 hour test it 1st.

To power up the PSU, find the ATX connector, and connect the green wire to any of the black wires (using a small wire or something stuck into the header). Make sure there is a load on the PSU (something significant connected) before you power it up, or you could damage it.
 
probably not, the drive doesn't use much power when it is idle. You could go buy some simple resistors from radioshack or something similar. Get some 5 ohm resistors and throw them on the PS. This will give 1 amp on the 5V line and 2.4 on the 12. I think that will be enough. Not really sure though.
