Im getting a new socket 754 based Athlon 64 system. Is the 3700+ as far as it is gonna go, or will they make like a 3900 or 4000 or more later?

Well i guess probably not. As s754 is now very much on par with s939 performancewise (compare the 3700+ 754 with is benched between the 3500+ and 3800+ 939) AMD surely does'nt want to hurt its s939 sales with a s754 4000+. As 754 is not being the socket amd wants you to use in the future they probably won't release an 754 top performer as it would very much perform like an comparable s939 3800+/3900+ rating. So for sure they don't have this on their roadmap :)
There could be a possibility that AMD releases a faster s754 cpu than the 3700+ in the future when the 939 is more mature and the procs are reaching speeds >4000+ but i would'nt count on it.

You wont see any higher rated desktop cpus however perhaps some 754 mobiles may come out down the line that are rated higher than 3700+ (e.g. the 1MB L2 cache ones at 90nm).
