Like everyone else I to am upgrading for hl2, go figure... anyways what I have right now in my box is a AMD k6 400 MHZ 94 mgs of pc100 ram, and a voodoo 3 graphics card. Iam going to have to upgrade the whole system, I think .
I have searched around and I have came up with these two cards, Nvidia, and ATI. I will be over clocking both of them, but is the ATI worth the extra twenty dollars? I know nobody can tell me how these Two cards are going to be like in hl2, but what Iam looking for I guess is best performance for the money. If this was your computer what would you decision be?

My choice would be the 9800 Pro, It outperforms the 5900 in almost every benchmark. Especially in shader 2.0 games such as hl2.

yes, it will make a large difference.

hl2 is a dx9 game, and on gfFX's, it has to default to dx8.1

you can force dx9 on it, but the frame rates die.

thnx for the info!! i have made my decision going to go with the ati and going to try to flash it to xt bios and oc it any suggestions on a vga cooler? under 30 bucks

No question the 9800 Pro. One thing though, isn't the 6600GT going to be $200 though?

I was leaning towards the zalman ages ago but the temp diff is small when put next to the silencer rev3 yes the zalman cools a bit better but the cost difference is WAY TOO MUCH dont forget u HAVE TO buy a fan with tht zalman crap stick with the silencer i hear it takes 2 dayz to install the zalman

Zalman isn't the way to go. You will NEED the fan or it will hit insanely high temperatures and as it was said, it's not that easy to install. This is based on multiple reviews I've read. When it comes to mondern video cards you can't go fanless at all.
