Well Guess what i did....

I formatted my drive without backing up some of my data and I have lost my data...

I made a backup cd but I forgot to drag a few imporntant folders (like mydocuments)....

I tried to donload some software to recover it but after detecting over 18GB of data the program wanted to charge me $139 a GB and I just don't got that cash lying around....

so any file recovery software out there that is free or sub $50?

i'm running win xp home currently and before reformat... bolth NTFS

every time the disk is written too more data dissappears forever... please help!!!!!!!

Well, an NTFS version of this program is not sub $50, but it's less than $140. I've used GetDataBack before and I have to say that it DOES work. It's a good program, imo. The directory structure is kept intact, and you see where everything is exactly the way you had it before.

However, with these types of programs there is always a catch. If you've written to that hard drive after the format, chances are some files were replaced with those from whatever you've installed. Still, there is a good chance you'll get your documents folder back if you haven't written to that hard drive.
Also, I haven't used the new version of that program but the version I used took a long while to scan the hard drive so be prepared to wait in anticipation. Heh. Good luck.

gulp.... i installed winxp over the drive before i realized that i was missing the files...

Well it doesn't sound good lets put it that way. The only thing you can do is try it and hope it works. If not at least you got a program for the future if you have any other types of these issues.
