CherryOS

Roughly half of you wrote in to let us know that CherryOS, that new Mac emulator that lets you run OS X on your PC, is finally officially available. So does it actually work? Several people have told us that they’ve managed to get the trial version up and running, though not without some bugs, plus there’s no support for sound capabilities or network bridging, at least not yet. These sorts of problems go with the territory when you’re running an emulator, but the really troubling part is that apparently the developer has “borrowed” some of the code used in the open source PearPC emulator. Very poor form, and probably reason enough not to plunk down the $49.95 for this.

[Thanks everyone who sent this one in]

I tried the trial and it was just a ripoff of pearpc. I do use pearpc though and it works fine, just horridly slow.

YMMV,
Dayton

yeah i saw that note near the end - shame, i do hope they dont take off by stealing peoples code!

Clash writes "Following its initial [0]announcement and subsequent [1]controversy last October, Mac emulator [2]CherryOS has finally been released. Its creator, Arben Kryeziu, found himself in hot water last year amid claims the software was simply stolen from the open source PearPC project. With the code now under public scrutiny, it appears that such allegations are true. According to BetaNews, [3]CherryOS boots up in the exact same manner as PearPC, and its error messages and source files are nearly identical. The emulator also includes MacOnLinuxVideo, which is the same driver used by PearPC to speed up graphics. The CherryOS configuration file also closely mirrors that used by PearPC. Trial download without registration [4]found here."
