Sound Problems

I'm having a problem with the rear sound ports on the back of the on board audio. I know the audio is working because i have the front panel audio connected and that is working fine. Asus ez sound app is picking up speakers in connected to the rear audio in the lime coloured jack but nothing is outputting. Is it possible to have both front and rear audio working?? Or am i missing something dumb
