Guides for nforce2/SATA on Gentoo

Does anyone have some links to good guides for installing Gentoo on an nforce2 based with system with SATA? I know there are tons of guides linked to on nforcershq...but it's annoying when the guides are 2+ years old and ultimately there's tons of options changed in the kernel config and in Gentoo itself. I'd like to get my SI SATA going from a 2.6.13 kernel - but I keep getting kernel panics on the first boot saying it can't find the device /dev/sda3 (which was my root partition). Most of what I tracked down on the Gentoo forums was people not loading the correct SATA driver (loading from SATA menu rather than SCSI menu) ... but that hasn't helped me.
