My laptop is no able to access http(port 80) however it can ping any internet server, connect to aim etc, anything but port 80. I am not runnign any firewalls, i have used a repair tool and fixed my winsock file and have also scanned for viruses and spyware using the latest definitions. Also it can access everything just fine in safe mode. I have tried using msconfig and just starting system serices and utils and no programs at all, and the internet still doesnt work so i know its not a program thats blocking me. If anyone has even the wildest ideas for fixing or even directly identifieing the problem. Thanks alot in advance.

I'd try uninstalling/re-installing the NIC adapter, telnetting over port 80 to an internet site (onloy to verify port connectivity), check advanced settings if your running XP SP1 or higher, try opening a web page saved locally, among other things.

i have now reinstalled the nic and openend a webpage that was stored. As to the other question i am trying to access things that start with http:// and i am using firefox, but i have also tried opera and internet explorer to rule out a program problem.....anymore ideas guys i could really use the help

Check port forwarding/triggering on your router to see if port 80 is flagged. Also try simply pinging some websites from the command prompt. If you can't even ping any websites it might be an ISP issue.

it connects fine in safe mode to all ports, and the router this computer connects with also servs other computers on the network which work just fine.
