Was wondering which combination would yield better results... price is about the same on Newegg...

I am guessing a single 7800GT would be better since I could upgrade in the future...

Any thoughts?

running a big resolution like 1600 x 1200 sli would be good for it if not get a hold of a 7900gt if u can alot better then the 7800gt

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ENE&Subcategory=48&description=7900gt&Ntk=all
$309.00 lowest one

$289.00

It's seldom a good idea to start with two mid level cards when you can have the same or more power in one card for the same or less money.

Go with the 7800GT or better yet see what 7900 card you can get instead.

A review on anandtech.com I believe just did this exact comparison. It shows the dual 7600GT's outperforming the single 7900GT time and again. The difference isn't huge, but it's noticeable. I just found a 7600GT card on newegg with rebate for $180 before the end of the month, so unless you plan on getting one 7800/7900 now and one later, the dual 7600GT's seem to be the better deal.

Here's my two EVGA 7600GT's in SLi. :welcome:

I run them at 1900 X 1200 and have 4x and 16x set for my gaming. I figure I'll upgrade later to the new cards when they come out in the future. These guys run smooth and I'm happy with my decision on the 7600GT.

Wow that's impressive. I would go dual 7600GT's cause you won't get a 7900GT to post scores like that.

That's not the most accurate thing because they are measuring total system power, but the 7600GT and 7900GT don't differ very much in terms of load power, though I think you'd see a bigger difference if the video cards were isolated.

Thanks. What kind of PSU do you think would be required to run 7600GT SLI's?

Btw, those are some sweet benchmarks Wenty. What's their stock core and mem, and have you tried OCing the cards?

EDIT: Okay, found the minimum PSU requirements for 7600GT SLI. From EVGA site, it's 400 watt PSU (means jack), with at least 24 amps on the 12 volt line. Damn, that's quite a low requirement!

There the EVGA 7600GT OC 600/1560.... I had to drop the memory down because of artifacts in BF2. I now run them at 600/1450 so the cards need better cooling for the memory.

Get the 7900 if you can... True you may get a little better of benches while running in sli... but you can upgrade to another 7900gt in the future and walk all over those 7600s

how is the dual 7600GT a better deal at $180 a piece after MIR?

NOTE: Remember, MIR typically works on only 1 item per household. So, only 1 card will be eligible for the MIR, and you have to pay full retail for the other card.

1 7900GT averages around $300. 2 7600GTs averages about $400 plus. That's at least $100 more. The 7600 GT SLI may outperform 1 7900GT, but it is not by much at all. If you plan to pay about $400, I will recommend getting the x1900xtx for $430 after MIR at monarchcomputer.

Today is the last day for the X1900XTX to be bought at $430.

I'm still debating whether I should get it or not.
