9800=OC 9600?

Is it true that the 9800 series is just a factory overclocked 9600 with a bigger heatsink? And, prolly not but, if you try to OC it even a little bit it will spark/smoke/explodzorz? My friend told me this and I don't believe him, but he owns a business based on videocard repair/OC etc. Also, what are some good mods for the 9800 pro?
 
they are different cards

you can definatly overclock the 9800pro

best mod is to flash it to an xt if it has a the 360 core
 
Tell your friend close his business and to never do it again. Those cards are not even close to being the same. The only things they have in common are that they are from ATI and support DX9.

The 9800 even at the same speed as a 9600 is at least 35%.
