Comp goes to sleep mode when I start a game.

some spec's would be helpful
Is it sleep, as in powering off?

I will try to give you more info to work with.
First, it is not a hardware thing cause it didn't start till I tried those Vista skin programs, and games worked GREAT. BAH! I knew better too, but I still wanted to try them.
When I start a game, the monitor turns off. My comp is still running like normal. Just as if it went into sleep mode. Nothing I do to the keyboard/mouse will wake it up though.

Sounds like it's pushing your monitor into a resolution/frame rate that it doesn't like.

Try setting the monitor to NEVER turn off in the Power Options Properties.
