so does anyone know what the retail HSF for the conroe will be? and possibly how loud/quiet itll be?

Intel stock HSF have historically been just capable of handling their processors at stock. Overclocked, it's just a paperweight.

That's been true in the past with their fire belching netburst procs, but I figure with Conroe's much lower TDP, if Intel just keeps using the hsf they include with their present Pentium D procs they should have some overclocking headroom with them. Of course, nobody has seen what Intel plans for their retail hsf yet that I know of.

Right, typically the Intel retail cooler can easily handle a modest overclock (if you have good case ventilation and leave voltage at default). But, once you crank up the vcore and start really pushing the limits, it's time for a better heatsink. What Intel plans to ship with the Conroe is still a mystery at this point.
