Hello,
I've got the "normal" Asus P5B mainboard and now i'm wanna buy 1xG.E.I.L. DDR2-800 CL4 1024MB. But only 1. Will the overclocking work as well as with 2x512 or do i have to have dual channel RAM?
Corsair is a little bit too expensive. Are there any good alternatives which are better than G.E.I.L. and cheaper than Corsair?

Thank you!

Well yes, one stick of RAM will O/C just fine, but why? Check out G. Skill if you are on a tight budget. You should be able to pick up decent 2X512 DDR2-800 for about $100.

i wanna upgrade in a couple of months and so 512 sticks will do no good :(
So is G.Skill a better choice over G.E.I.L.?

While RAM choice is sometimes a matter of personal preference, I've never been that impressed with GEIL. I would say G. Skill or OCZ would be better and probably cheaper too.

Ok, I see your logic now. If you decide to get one stick now and another later, make sure the second stick is exactly the same. It's really better to buy them both at the same time right now, because the maker might use different chips at a later date or discontinue that model entirely.

Here is G. Skill 2X1GB DDR2-800 for $175 at newegg (including an instant $35 savings).

Here is OCZ 2X1GB DDR2-800 for $158 at newegg after $40 mail in rebate.

Thank you very much for this info.
Unfortunately i live in europe and my shop offers only this kind of OCZ:

OCZ DIMM 1 GB DDR2-800 (OCZ28001024ELGE, Gold EL) ~ CL5 5-5-10 1.9V = $128

it has CL5 and my previously chosen GEIL stick has CL4:

G.E.I.L. DIMM 1 GB DDR2-800 (GX21GB6400U) ~ CL4 4-4-12 2.1V = $114

so is OCZ here still the better choice?
