Just like it says- I don't have the $$ to drop on AV software if I can get it free.

AVG from http://www.grisoft.com is an absolute hog, IMHO- worked OK but I would like to try something else.

I used to use a DOS-level AV program called F-prot- are they still around? I can't find it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, McAffee died about a year ago on us (stupid OEM trial!!), and since I don't really have any $$ either, I periodicly check my system using Housecall. It's an online virus scanner, and seems to work well for me. I've never contracted a virus, so I can't really tell you how good it is at dealing with them, but the interface seems rather hassle free.

Here's a link...

thanks for the idea, Oni. I didn't think they had a trial. I'll take a look!

JigPu I'm doing that Housecall thing you linked right now. I have an EICAR file, we'll see how it goes:)
