Right now I'm running on the rig in my sig. The extra monitor broke, I have no DVD drive since that broke, my keyboard and mouse barely function so I use external devices. I figured I should plan out an upgrade as I now have a job and I want a new computer mainly for gaming, learning Linux but I also do A LOT of extracting(4GB+), and I multi task like a mad man. I watch at least 1 movie a day on the computer so that's pretty important. I have plenty of external storage so I don't need anymore so that's covered.

I have been out of the loop so it would be helpful if you could give me some guidance. Now the below adds up to about 1100$. Let's try and lower that :p. Now I just want to meet the requirements I stated above, but if this is more then needed, please, let me know. I would like to OC but hell, if it's gonna cost this, I might pass.

How does the 6300 run at stock? Any better then what I have now?

Is there any graphics card that is cheaper then the one I picked out but might yield better results then the 6800go?

Any cheaper ram that can OC decently? I need 2 gigs.

The games I play are CSS, Far Cry, Prince of Persia. But anyway I might be able to actually play like GRAW or the new rainbow six? They wont run smoothly on my system, hah.

And I guess I need a cooler. Any decent cheap ones? The last one I had was a Zalman CNPS7000 or something for an AMD. Then phase change...but it's been awhile, haha.

2 OCZ Gold 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

ASUS P5B Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P965 Express

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz

SO yeah comments, or suggesting for lowering the price would be very helpful.

Thanks a lot guys. Sorry I have so many questions. I need to stop hanging out in GD.

the 6300 at stock would rape your dothan, Id go for it if you actually need that much power. You should be able to run rainbow six on your current setup.. but it wont be pretty.. so upgrading might be in mind.. Just really depends on how much money you have.

So the 6300 is solid at stock speeds? Because right now, it's not slow, I just want to upgrade. but if the 6300 is considerably better then my Dothan, I might just get some mediocre RAM to tide me over for awhile.

And with this board, I would be able to add a DX 10 card a one point, correct?

Thanks.

EDIT-The 7600GT looks very solid for the price. Think I could go with that for games that are out now?

And I picked out the Antec Smartpower 2.0 500watt. Looks powerful enough.

My big question is do I need DDR2-800? Or can it be less? DDR2-800 is quite expensive, haha.

Don't get 4x512 of RAM if you want two gigs, get 2x1024. I think you need faster DDR2 800 RAM with the 6300. It will also save a few buck on shipping charges.

If you are not going to use SLI for your graphics, then you don't need the deluxe Asus board with 2xPCI-e 16x slots. Look at the P5B-E for $150 or the Abit AB9 pro for $145.

The 7800GTX is way better than the 7600GT

Coolers. I like the Zalman 9500 but there are others from thermaltake and thermalright that are just as good or better.

yeah, I understand about the memory.

What will the 7600GT play though? It looked like it was playing a lot of games solid and its WAY cheaper.

And I'll check those boards out.

Thanks

look into getting a e4300 and this ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231087

cheapest quality ddr2 800 ram

the e4300 has a 9 multi man and if you get a good one 400x9 all day...

if you get e6300 your gonna need mem that does 450+ for 3.2 and that mem will cost at least $40 more, although these gskills are not D9 they do average 900 so you may be ok with those and e6300 anyway but you may not be able to top out a good e6300 with them.

BTW Frys has 6600 for $297 right now if you wanna get cheap ram and go for broke lol

So..how solid is that? Mostly, how would it compare you think to my current one? ('m so out of the loop, I hate it, haha)

But I appreciate your help.

It looks like my max is 1000-1050$ at the most.

I guess my last real question has to do with the graphics. I hear it's a solid card for the money. Think it is better then a 6800go? haha.

And some AS5. Seems like a really solid system. Think it will perform well? :D I hope so, haha.

I'll probably put the order through tonight, keep looking over stuff just in case.
