laptop problem

Hi people!
I have a packarbell easynote r4, i had a powersurge and fried the charger, so i got a new charger and laptop powers up, but if i move the cable it switches off, also wont hold charge in the battery.

what do you think could be wrong?
im thinking that i need a new battery.

Its possible it fired your battery, or maybe it was on its last legs and just a mere coincidence to the surge. As for the cable, just make sure everything is snug fitting. If its a universal charger perhaps it just doesnt make a good enough connection.
