Ive been trying to fix a problem for someone I built a PC for.
I used to use a USB to serial adaptor to connect to the Vinyl Cutter he had.
When he tried to do something very large the cutter would get "confused" and go in the wrong places.
He phones up the Manufacturer and was told that the problem was the USB to serial adaptor and that he should get a Serial PCI card.
So I got him one of these, Fitted it, Installed the drivers, and set it to COM1(The software for the cutter can only use COM1+2)
However when I try and use it with this I get nothing, It doesnt even attempt to print. All setting are the same as they were for the USB serial adaptor.
Any Advice?
Thanks

Just curious, does the motherboard not have its own serial ports? If there aren't any physical ones the bios may still have them enabled which could cause a conflict with the pci card ones

Since he went and bought a card, I'd assume that it does not have built in ones.

OP, I don't have any ideas besides maybe a setting is wrong in the BIOS.

Nope, the motherboard had no built In Serial Ports.
Any Ideas as to what the wrong setting could be.
Its its one of the most simple BIOS's ever with very little settings.

There may still be serial port headers on the m/b, check the bios for serial/com port settings, if they exist set them to disabled. Also what motherboard is it pls?
