I've been getting BSODs for about the past month now. I'm not entirely sure whats causing it as it happens randomly (sometimes I'm watching a video, playing a game, or even when its idle at desktop). I've reverted back to stock settings in the BIOS and I still got the BSOD so it's not because of system instability. I've also ran memtest86+ for about 12 hours with no errors and the Western Digital Lifeguard diagnostic says that my hard drive passes the S.M.A.R.T test.

Anyhow here are some of the stop codes I've gotten:

0x000000D1
0x0000008E
0x00000077

I haven't reformatted yet but I'd rather not have to do that if possible.

It might help to know which OS you're running. But regardless, all three of those STOP errors have one thing in common... faulty RAM / incorrect timings / insufficient Vdimm, etc. I know you mentioned having tested your RAM w/ Memtest, and I'm assuming you have 2x512MB sticks of RAM installed... but remove all but one stick of RAM and test each individually (not by using Memtest, but rather the MS Memory Diagnostic tool).

Windows Memory Diagnostic
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Sorry I forgot to mention it, I'm using XP. I don't think its overheating because its been fine for the past 2 years and I have pretty good airflow.

I agree with redduc. It can take a bit of time, but the memory shuffle is where I would be. Take your time; be methodical and thorough.

How often does this problem occur? I know you said randomly but usually once per day or does it occur more often? I would be leaning towards RAM also but would not be counting out your PSU. Was also wondering do you have ACPI enabled? I have the same mobo with X2 - 3800 and if I do not enable ACPI it gives me all kinds of troubles........if it even boots.

It happens multiple times a day (about 3 or 4). I think I do have ACPI enabled. I'm fairly sure that this is a software issue of some sort since everything has been peachy until about a month or so.

Crash,

Dirtydawg has a point, and I'm not saying it's your problem, but you may want to take a look at your power supply capacitors while your at it. Look to see if they are bulged or leaking. It's easy to do and you perhaps can eliminate two potential problems at once while checking your RAMs as recommended above.

http://www.capacitorlab.com/visible-failures/pic002.htm

There is sometimes a file being referenced with a "Stop Error" somewhere in the screen text. If there is one, list it.

Well I ran the memory diagnostic and it didn't come up with anything after about 10 passes of the extended tests on each stick. And I don't see anything wrong with the capacitors.

Crash,

Try this site for a few suggestions:

http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm

Since you have checked and tested some of the obvious, I looked at some of the errors you have and most refer back to drivers. "Stop Errors" many times reference a specific file causing the problem but not always, which makes it more difficult to assess. Have you changed or installed anything recently in your rig that could be driver related?

All connections tight and clean, including any SATA hd connectors?

In addition, open Event Viewer (Start | Run | Type eventvwr.msc in the Run box) and right click--> "Properties" the latest critical errors you've received related to the 0xD1, 0x8E, and 0x77 errors (critical errors are in Red). Copy and paste (use the "Copy to Clipboard" button under the arrow buttons in the "Event Properties" window) the latest critical error message(s) as they appear under the "Description" field, and post them in this thread.

After you hit the "Copy to Clipboard" button in the "Event Properties" dialog, the contents in the Description field will be copied to the ClipBook Viewer (ClipBoard). You can then just paste the contents into your post, as there is no Edit-->Select All-->Copy function in ClipBook. In addition you could type clipbrd in the Run box, which will open the ClipBook Viewer containing the copied text from the Event Properties dialog... then perform a File-->Save As, and save the file with a *.txt extension. You could then perform a Edit-->Select All, then do a copy/paste of the text in your new post... so you have a couple different options.

Also, open the System Information tool by typing msinfo32 in the Run box | Expand "Components" | Highlight "Problem Devices", and look for any problems that might be listed there. You might also want to check out the sticky at the top of this forum...

Made sure everything was properly connected. I see 2 critical errors under the System heading.

The thing is I haven't had NOD32 on the computer for a while now. I've been using Kaspersky for as long as I can remember. NOD32 isn't even installed. Here's the log:

Got rid of those 2 critical errors by disabling the services in the device manager. Still getting the BSODs though. :(

I have the minidump file if that is some use to you.
