basically im looking to spend between $350-500

looking for 1080p upconversion, multi-dvd changer, wireless rear's
number of inputs dont make a difference as any components will be hooked up to the tv via HDMI and 5.1 will be transferred through via optical to the reciever

im leaning towards the sammy out of instinct..

and where would you guys recommend i put the rears?

i was thinking my best bet would be speaker stands on the sides of the couch?

finally what would be a reasonable amount of money to charge someone to set all this up?
also if anyone has any other recommendations for HTIB in this price range that are superior to either of these please let me know!

That is a pretty large room with what looks like a very high ceiling for such small speakers. I think you will have a hard time with getting it to sound good.

would need more pics of the room to tell you where to put the rears... If those are your 2 choices i would take the sammy unit.

can i offer something else though?

that right there for a 6.1 setup would run you $420, then add your choice of dvd player.
i have this upconverting sammy dvd, good IQ at 720p on my DLP, its only $79

without taxes and the DVD player now added into the cost, its $499 and some change.

to me going this route is much better overall then a HTIB.

how would that compare to this?

but again..the sammy has the wireless rears which would be realllly good and the clients getting this system are far from audiofiles, so i think to them the sammy would sound amazing, save me the trouble of finding a way to run/hide the rear cable wire and they'll love the upconverting 5 dvd changer.

i was thinking about piecing together a system..but i just dont know if its necessary
plus the client wants something that looks sleek, and not too big or ugly

well the biggest problem with all in one units. that have amps and dvd in one, is the rated power is to be way overrated just to sell the unit.

comparing to that sony, i would say sammy unit or that one going on what you now stated. running wires for what i suggested would be no issues you could get white colored speaker cable and run it up the wall/ceiling.

added a middle picture, the 4th corner of the room is the kitchen entrance/hallway

I wouldnt bother with any of the garbage at Best Buy. HTIB = a big no no. Youre better off buying a good receiver and a couple nice floor standing speakers for your fronts, wont even need a subwoofer. I picked up a pair of Klipsch Fortes (vintage 1985) for $200 yesterday, they look brand new. Theyre the best speakers Ive heard...they were $1200 a pair new. The seller couldve easily gotten $800 to $1000 for em but needed to move em fast. On a flat EQ the bass shakes the walls down. The soundstage is so expansive they will eclipse any mid-range home theater system. Craigslist is your friend in this case. Youd be surprised at what $500 can get you. Chances are theres an area near you populated with people who have more money than brains...you WILL find many steals...literally. I have mine hooked to a vintage kenwood KR9400 receiver...it puts out 100 real watts per channel. Most of the HTIBs may be marketed as 100WPC, but in actuality they come nowhere near that.

right we understand that Sir Barton... the person in question doesnt care about that from d94 posts though... they want it out of the way and sleek, seems they are not audiophile types.

D94,
gimme a few to chop the photos for my suggestion for the rears. been a bit busy with some computer stuff im working on...

ok here are the pics i should have gotten done sooner. i have been pulling my hair out over some ripping/encoding for some benching, looks like i got things figured out!! YAY!

ok back on topic here are the pics, yellow in the first one is my first choice for the speaker and red is second choice for placement. then in the other pic well only one spot i would go with but i dont know what is to the left of that area.

Doh see that is how fried my brain is still...

I would put them in the red areas. When the speakers are spread futher apart it also makes the sweet spot bigger as well. If youre able to, try and put the satellites at ear level when youre sitting in your chair.
