It really depends on the game and settings you play at. The GX2 performs pretty poorly in a number of games, and it doesn't always scale greatly. It also runs hot, if that's a concern. It's only slightly more expensive than a GTX, so that's a major plus for the performance you get in many games, or if you want to do quad-SLI.
 
The GX2 is great, but it's HOT! and power hungary. The GTX+ is cooler but slower. If your computer can support it, get the GX2

Remember, the GX2 is 2x GTX 65nm in SLi, so if the game doesn't support SLi than you will not see much of a boost.

8800GTS (g92)=9800GTX=9800GTX+(but a core shrink)
9800GX2 is arguably=GTX280 but half the price
