I currently have a maximus formula with 2 sticks of 1 gig each dominator.

I was wanting some more ram for some reason..

I guess performance. Anyways, my question is, would it be better to get a 2x2 4 gig kit of dominator
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145214

and then still use my 1x1 2gb kit of dominator for a total of 6gb of ram.

Or would it be better to get 2x2 4gb kit by itself.

Or another 2gb kit like i have then i would have 1x4 4gb kit..

If it would be better to have just 2x2 4gb kit then i would probably go with

Thanks!!

What happens if you mix memory brands.. Like if i wanted to add a 4 gig kit of the gskill with the same timings and voltage.. Its cheaper also. ??

your wasting money...vista 32bit will only use 3.5 gigs
and 6 gigs total is a bad idea unless your using a i7 setup....
for some reason over 4 gigs hinders overclocking
and using a 32 bit os will only use 3.5 gigs
just buy another 2 gig kit of what you already have
4 gigs vs 6 gigs you wont see the difference
btw dont mix brands...wont handle same voltages and wont oc as well
also that usualy screws you warranties with many companies

When i do decide which ram to get I would install vista x64.
for me to upgrade to 4gb of ram, I have two choices. Buy another 2gb kit of dominator for 15 dollars more than a complete 4gb kit of gskill.. How well does gskill overclock? The best i could get out of my dominator is 5-5-5-15 @ 1133. I dont know much about overclocking ram. Im pretty sure i should be able to get a better overclock than that by releasing the timings but i dont know what to set them to..

If you are using vista 64 the 6 gig setup will give you more room for superfetch, (the ability for the operating system to preload files it thinks you might need). I'm not sure how much benefit you will see over 4gig. For that you'd need someone who actually USES more than 4gig of ram with Vista x 64

and for the ram part just mix them you'll be fine

honestly get a 4 gig kit of reaper 1150 thats what i have and its running at 533mhz effective(equivelent to ddr3 1333)((as of today))(((broke the 10gbp/s mark today)))
purchased another 2 gigs today should get here Wednesday
and no brand mixing
lols bad idea but if you have ur mind set between the 2 then get the dominator...

installed 2 more gigs today and have them all runing at 12.2gbp/s
ddr2 1150 at ddr3 1333
lol thanks ocz for being the best
anyways...no dom problems...he hasnt even purcased the ram yet...
get the dominator or a 4 gig kit of ocz 1150 your choice

See, the issue i have with buying OCZ is that when i got this maximus formula board i had some ocz gamer extreme 1066 and it would not work with this board.. So i sold it. But i think the bios updates fixed the issue but i havent tried them yet.

But thanks for all the info. Mt memory can only hit 9367mb/s. thats at 550MHz.

So, maybe I will try the ocz again.. reaper just sounds better than dominator.. lol
