Ok here is my delima!

I am a total newb when it comes to Overclocking and such!

I am using a Asus p5q-E Motherboard, with a q8200 intel chip. I have a sapphire 4870 GDDR5 1 gig video card and 4 gigs of DDR2 ram at 800 mghz. (corsair xms2). my PSU is a corsair 550w.

here is my question!

Can I and if so, How do I overclock this chip to 3+ghz I have a coolmaster heatsink fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103040 .

I was hoping to get 3.2-3.4 ghz and possibly OC my video card and ram!

well i would start out with the lowest ram ratio in bios. work your way up to 400mhz fsb, at that speed your ram would be back in spec. is the ram cas4 or cas5,better yet got a link to the exact ram you have? even if you hit 400mhz fsb that is only a clock speed of 2.8ghz on that cpu. for 3.2ghz your going to need to hit 458 fsb, which is doable on P45. the question is can your ram go that high..

here is my ram. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

your going to have to tell me what to input on all the settings in the bios. if I use the Overclocking software that came with my motherboard. My computer completly freezes and I have to hit the reset button... >.< My comp will also randomly restart itself. yet it is idling at 18-19*c as I am typing this.

*Edit* here is the links to all my parts. hope this helps!

Every BIOS is a bit different. Can't say all the possible inputs needed. Shuffle through.
Find PCI lock, or PCI-E and PCI bus speeds. Engage the lock, or set PCI-E to 100 and PCI to 33 (might not be present, then just forget it)
Set RAM "speed" to the lowest possible, or if it's named correctly, RAM/CPU ratio to the lowest possible.
Next, set CPU bus/FSB from 333 to, say, 345, save, boot, Prime95 test for 5-10 minutes, if no errors pop up, proceed to 355 or such. Repeat, repeat, move in small steps. Once an error or crash occurs, revert to last working settings, or up the CPU/maybe Northbridge voltage by one step. Also, if the FSB is over 400, you might want to try setting timings a bit higher on the RAM.

Just letting you know that right now I am OCing a q8200 at 400MHz FSB right now no problem and have run it stable at 430MHz FSB except my temps get to high. I think this maybe due to the cooling though.

I don't think your rams looking too good with the spec of 555-18 @ 1.9v stock for PC6400.
Try to get the max out of it..... if not happy, you may want to get a different set for further OC.

depending on the ic's he might be able to push to 2.1v and get higher clocks. some ic's dont respond to more voltage but timings. like sam said 555 for ddr2-800 is rather loose to start with.
