yes it should.. though what do you plan on doing that you need that kind of ram for? even with heavy photoshopping plus encoding plus web and playing mp3s you probably wont even break the 6gb mark.. 24 is just for epeen bragging and otherwise useless to any gamer

FYI, you could build that system off newegg for a fraction of the cost.. that system looks like upwards of 1900?.. for like 1500 you can build it yourself .. wasting money on ibuypower bigtime.. if you got it waste it!

Just gaming...I thought maybe later I'd actually need 24gb but I know that's probably a long time from now. Right now just overclocking it 10% not 20 because I'm too afraid it will destroy the processor or other parts. I think I have enough cooling to invite penguins. What do you think about the psu? Someone said go duo but the i7 has a lot of capabilities.

Just get 6GB now and know that since you game you will never use more than that.

There are much better PSU's on the market than the one selected. Corsair 850TX/HX comes to mind.

yes that option was available as well...I think it was 30 bucks more...people seem to be half and half over corsair and thermalake but if you think it will save me in the long run. I'll choose that one instead. Yes...no?

No one on this forum will be half and half between Corsair PSU's and Thermaltake PSU's. Thermaltake, for the most part, is more worried about looks than performance. In the car world I would say they're all Show and no Go (or very little go anyway)

For the rest of the system... you're a gamer, so...

You do not need a i7 940, get the 920. Do not pay someone to overclock your rig 10%. When you can easily get a 30% overclock on a i7 920 by changing ONE (yes ONE) setting in the BIOS. Also, as stated prior, you will never use or need 24gb's of RAM

I read that asus has something in bios to make those settings. My reason behind the 940 was because I wasn't sure if overclocking it would kill some parts later. Also because you know how some games ask for 2.8 so I went with the 940 for the 2.9. The other reason why I went with the 10% was because ibuypower won't cover the computer under warranty if I overclock it myself and something happens. Ok, sooooo if I go 920 and overclock it. That would be at 3.0-3.2 is my guess...

I am thinking if I pay the 10% and increase the overclock myself after the first year then I should be fine. It's just the 1st year that the warranty is only really good for the rest of the time ibuypower wants you to ship it to them and they replace stuff but they charge for parts which is crap so might as well do it at home.

You're not going to kill some parts later, unless you're pushing ridiculous voltages. This is part of why this forum exists... you buy the product and overclock it to make it outperform the much more expensive counterpart. That's what we do, and you're in the right spot to learn how to do it.

You need to price out the components and see how much you're getting ripped off. Go to Newegg, and fill your cart with the exact components specified...

np checking now...ya I have no experience in OC'in that's of course why I came here :D

no idea why newegg put this...worries me
Open Box: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard....nevermind I see why they give 71 credit if you take their open box...lmao bad bad

A quick cart build of the exact or BETTER components you have listed, and I'm at less than $1700. How much does IBUYPOWER want for that setup? After factoring the miscellaneous stuff that I missed (crap water cooler they listed, TIM, etc...), you'll still be well under $1800

Edit: that is also without paying any attention to the combo deals that Newegg has going, you can probably get it down quite a bit from that even.

Yeah wow...! Save your money, learn with the site and its members! We all started out knowing nothing! Read the sticky threads at the top of each section so you get to know a bit about the parts, and then start your journey!

I second the i7 920 and overclocking it on your own.

I would also say, YES on the corsair unit over thermaltake. If they have the 750HX/TX you could even get that and save a bit of money. That will handle two gpu's and an overclocked i7 just as well.

i put that system together.. almost fully and it was already at near 1900..so its still a ~200 saving

the system in my signature, though not "top end" parts, is dialing in at under $1100 so far, thanks to this site and their classifieds.. basically a 1400+ system for near 1000.. thats a steal!

Some games that say the require 2.8 ghz cpu usually mean if it is one core. The i7 has 4 cores.

Do not worry with the i7 it can handle any game at default settings!

ok this is the update with ibuypower..almost done with the newegg comparison...

only $40 bucks off this and that's not counting paying for shipping and warranties....

if you're a student or have a .edu email addy you can get the OS for 32 bucks, the cathodes arent really necessary, but if you're going for bling...you should be able to get away with dropping the PSU down to a 750..
