Radeon 8500, can't run 3dmark2001

when i first start 3dmark it tells me that i can't run 3dmark properly. first off, a window pops up and tells me that it had to downgrade something because my current video card couldn't run it. when i press 'ok' it goes onto the screen and when i start the bench, it starts off well but about 3 seconds into the bench my computer totally restarts.

has this happened to anyone?

Seeing it has taken awhile for anyone to respond I can only turn you to a website that is for Radeon and other ATI products. www.rage3d.com has a forum that has some wonderful help on it.
