Hello,

I have an old desktop I'd like to upgrade.

I use Photoshop and Lightroom (photography) and Illustrator (illustrations) - plus browsing, e-mail, and similar everyday tasks. No games, so I will NOT need high powered graphics card. My budget is around $500, and I'd like to fit in it: MB, CPU, RAM and graphics card. I have ATX midi tower case, so most MBs should fit.

Advice and ideas appreciated =).

i'm thinking this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.564873
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145299
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131327
~$450

EDIT: if your an intel fan, Add $4 and get this instead of the Phenom+am3 Mobo for this:

Problem is, Amd gves u a Quadcore and Intel gives a Dualcore, i personally would go with AMD as it is more future proof.

Thanks for your response!

My old PC was Athlon 64, A-bit mobo and 1GB ram.

I ended up buying i5-760, Asus H55 based mobo, and 4GB corsair memory for $350 at microcenter. I skipped video card, because upon closer inspection it turned out my old one was nvidia 7600GT based, which I deemed "good enough for now". I contemplated getting an i7, then thought a small SSD boot drive might give me nice performance boost, but in the end didn't get either =).

Anyway - thanks for taking the time to respond, and happy holidays =).
