Why is a BFG GTX 285 refurb so expensive?

Probaly because BFG no longer makes gpu's and that card is several generations old.

My first guess was a niche application for a 512-bit bus, but no. Tiger Direct apparently sells old stuff to people who don't know if the merchandise has a practical successor for much less, instead of discontinuing the product or heavily marking it down. I've never seen Newegg do that.

Seems like probably an error. The only places I've seen prices that inflated are on ebay, people selling old stuff who I suspect don't have any idea their price is terrible or they haven't ever updated the pricing in 5 years and the item has never sold.

I think people on ebay are just trying to rip people off frankly who dont know better. That card should go for about 70 dollars.
