I just got an XFX 7900gs 256mb (525/1550mhz stock), and it's running at 60c idle and about 65-70c load on stock cooling, is that normal?

My 3d Fuzion 7600gs 256mb (500/900mhz OCed) that I upgraded from, ran at about 40c idle, and about 45-50c load.

Also, I've tried the 7900gs out in Oblivion, Quake 3 Arena, and Battlefield 2142, and I didn't notice any real increase in FPS, is there a problem somewhere?

My system:
Windows XP SP2
Forceware 93.71 (same drivers that I had with my 7600gs)

AMD Opteron 144 @ 2.8ghz
XFX 7900gs 256mb @ 525/1550mhz (stock)
Corsair 2x512mb DDR400
WD Caviar 160GB SATA HDD

The problem for your FPS could be that you aren't OCing the card :) It's a beast when you OC :D As for temps, when I first got my eVGA the idle was about 38-40, and load was around 65-68. Now it's on water ;)

Did you uninstall the drivers from your 7600gs before installing the 7900gs? I would definitely do this! If you didn't, download the driver remover and then reinstall. Of course reboot after removing driver but before installing new one.

I assumed since they both use the same drivers, Nvidia Forceware (93.71), that I didn't need to uninstall them and reinstall the same drivers... Will it make any difference?

OCing shouldn't be relevant, since it's already factory OCed @ 525/1550 vs 450/1320.

I'm saying I don't notice any real performance increase in this XFX 7900GS 256mb over my old 7600 gs.

Factory OC'ed is nothing. It's just a change in the BIOS, probably any other brand of 7900GS could have reached those clocks without sweat. But I mean real OCing, I was able to get mine to about 590 core and 850 memory before I voltmodded it. I've seen cores go above 620 though on stock volts.

PS: Welcome to the forums :D

It is quite possible not uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers can cause problems.
They use the same version of drivers but the cards are different so they need different settings.
