I have the chip I listed in the title. I haven't used AMD in a little while and I am kinda confused to what mother board socket types are compatible. I need a new mobo for it. AM2? AM2+? AM3?

AM3 chips are obviously compatible with socket AM3 , but also backwards compatible with socket AM2+ motherboards.Biggest difference you will need different types of memory, ddr2 for AM2+ and ddr3 for AM3.

That chip will fit any AM2, AM2+, or AM3 board that has a bios that supports it.

If you get an AM3 board you will need to get DDR3 ram.
If you get an AM2/AM2+ board you will need to get DDR2 ram.

The same CPU works for both.
(Note: AM2/AM2+ cpus will not function in AM3 boards)
