Anybody used Glacialtech Igloo H58? Seems pretty good on paper to me.

Hi,

It seems this cooler has very good potential cooling capacity with 5 8mm heatpipes, large surface measure, 14" PMW fan and cheap too.

However, I cant find any real world test with actual temperature this cooling. Has anybody use this cooling? how does it actually performs? I am using i5 750 and looking to upgrade to something quiter and cooler.

no-name chinese CPU cooler close to CM Hyper 212 with 4 X 4mm heatpipes and definetely much smaller surface area than this mammoth. my i5 750 load temp 68-70C on prime95 with 1.34vCore. When playing Assassin Creed Revelation, CPU temp constantly on 58-60C.

The thing is i can snatch this cooler for $30 and wondering if i should get it.
 
sorry i meant 4 6mm heatpipes.

It is smaller by 25mm tall, 20mm wide, only has 4 6mm heatpipes, weaker 12" fan compared to Igloo H58 and no PMW though doesnt matter to me since i use fan controller that comes with my case.

The Igloo is probably the better cooler by far. However 60c load temperature is not bad for an intel chip. We tend to recommend staying below 75c for maximum stability but they are safe up to 90c.
 
The base of that heatsink reminds me a lot of the Spire Thermax Eclipse II I tested. It shares the same problem with it too. The spacing between the heatpipes is so great that you don't get direct contact between the outer 2 heatpipes and the IHS. The Spire heatsink did work pretty well; better than a Hyper 212+ in my testing.

You will notice a lot of similarity between the 2 heatsinks, but it looks like the mount on the Glacialtech cooler is better designed.
 
you are dead right. My concern is the heatpipes will not fully contact bond with CPU surface thus not fully utilized.

60C is actually winter room temperature i would expect the load temp goes 10C hotter in summer as my room temp is very low at the moment (i like cold hence heater off :D)
 
If you look at the pics of my TherMax review, you will see exactly that on all Intel chips. Only the AMD chip had an IHS big enough to get any kind of contact between the outer 2 heatpipes and the IHS and it barely had any contact with the outer 2 heatpipes..
 
Just curious, which will be better say 6mm with 5 heatpipes or 8mm with 4 heatpipes?
 
My personal opinion on heatpipe size is that if the manufacturer wants to go with more than 4 of the 6 mm heapipes or go with more than 3 of the 8 mm heatpipes, they really need to get away from the HDT style of base and go with a solid base design such as the bases that Thermalright uses. The reason I feel this way is that you have problems getting good IHS contact to the outer heatpipes on a HDT style base with that many heatpipes and with a solid style base you get more heat conduction to the outer heatpipes through the copper base material.
