Hello.

I just got a new 10 core CPU for one of my servers: an Intel Xeon E5-2690 v2.

I was wondering what you guys would consider the best method of applying thermal compound to such a CPU?
I've only ever dealt with dual- or quad-core CPUs in the past and have always used Arctic Silver's recommendations as a reference. There's no mention of Intel 10 core CPUs, however.

I've mostly used the "vertical line" method before (see AS link above) so the "line of thermal compound crosses the quad or dual cores vertically", as they put it.
I have no idea how the cores on my new CPU are positioned, but I doubt you could "cross" all of them with a single line of thermal paste.
So I was thinking the "middle dot" method might be more adequate?

What do you guys reckon?

Oh and I'm going to use some leftover Arctic MX-2.

Thanks!
