Seems Charlie may have been onto something?

The VR zone article does make a lot of sense though. The GT200 cards are very expensive to make in comparison to ATI's 5000 series, and now with the launch of ATI's 5000 mid-range cards, and a refusal to drop prices from Nvidia, it makes sense to cease production and clear stock till Fermi gets here.

Charlie been right many many many times last few month, he just loses alot of creditability due to his extreme bias .

No duh! Throw enough "stuff" on the wall and some is bound to stick. I, too, can state the obvious.

Zap's predictions*** for the future:
Nvidia's next high end GPU will outperform their current GPUs.
Nvidia will stop production of current GPUs due to the release of their next GPUs.

***predictions = stating the obvious

Hmm GTX285 classified just released a couple weeks ago, 275 SOC released.

Maybe they mean no more vanilla versions? Just super high end OC monster ones :)

lol I love that first link, "Semi-accurate" in the address.

Fudzilla, also another solid source...

Unless you work for Nvidia and know all of their short term and long term strategy...meh

Charlie is so full of BS I can smell him in California and the way from the UK. He must have gotten another
anti NV check from AMD just before their earnings today where AMD is going to bleed a few 1000 more
gallons of red ink (est -.41 to -.44/share) for the quarter. NV is going to make money in the same quarter.

The answer is quite simple. NV took the the old G200 die production down a mile to allow for initial production
and ramp up of the G300's at TSMC. There is only a finite amount capacity at TSMC which is made worse
as they are switching lines from 55nm (G200)to 40nm (G300) production. As usual Charlie is to occupied
spinning anti NV BS and rumor to see the forest through his imagined trees.

Viper

Update - AMD did good loosing only .18 per share although -.26 is more correct W/O the accounting trick of
an 8 cent per share of debt repurchase (trading cash on hand to pay down debt on the books). Of course
that now leaves AMD even more cash on hand strapped than it already was just to make the quaterly loss
look better in print. Gross margins did improve to 40%, up from 35%, but that is still god awful.

Let me tell you one thing , you are not far away from Charlie by using superficial facts to make AMD look bad in an NV thread btw .They are doing much better then expected in this economy and they made many competitive products this year ,also they have plenty of capital to keep going .

AMD just transitioned from 55nm but they still have plenty rv770 , so g200b was so demanded that NV simply run out of stock ! no reasonable company would lose an opportunity to sell cards , unless those cards cant compete, NV cannot sell cards any cheaper due to contracts made with partners , rest of g200 will be poured down the oem channels .

hey hey im not taking sides,

just posting the info :)

altho those super oc cards etc may have been produced before the decision to cease production?

Those are the facts...nothing super superficial about them. About the only thing NV did wrong was they under
estimated the demand for the G200 cards and under ordered G200 dies before taking much of the production
down to make room for 40nm dies at TSMC, G200 cards are still readily available in the states though that
won't last as long as it probably should have with the Xmas season coming on.

As to AMD the numbers above are the numbers they reported. They did much better than expexted but the poor
gross margins reflect the fact they are not competitive in the CPU market in any way shape or form (Intels
GM' was 57% with 62% estimated in the current quarter) and AMD under priced the 4800 series and now the
5700/5800 series cards. AMDs' cash on hand is abysmal and their conference call was in no way inspiring. It
sounded more like a funeral dirge when compared to Intels.
