Cheaper RAM for Dual memory?

I have a P4 [email protected] GHz.

Memory one stick Samsung 512. I want to add another. When I got my Abit IC-7 they told me only to use Samsung or good quality Ram otherwise Dual Memory mode wouldn't work.

Is this still a problem with the BIOS upgardes this past year? Can I buy cheaper RAM and still have Dual mem mode?

Dual channel may work with cheap/generic memory, but there is not guarantee. Dual channel puts more stress on memory and motherboard. Beyond the additional stress, some memory just will not run well due to techincal incompatabilities between the mobo and memory, or even between two different sticks of memory.
