coolbits detects to 487/1.17 on my 7800gt is it a good overclocker?

Coolbits usually auto detects somewhat conservatively too. 487 is a nice OC for a non-vmodded card. You should do the vmod and see what your max OC is. You may be able to do close to 510. That's pretty good for a 7800GT. @ IrishAssassin, no vmod on that card? 520 is extremely high without the vmod, and even with the vmod, that's still a very strong card.

i thought my 7800gs was a 7800gt core thats been neuted. But its clocks along at 500/1400 (overclocked anyway). ive benched at 510/1500, but she was snowing.

I think that's correct, but I've seen some awesome OCs with the 7800gs cards. Some do quite a bit better than my 7800 GT ever did and even score a little higher too, I think.
